The chain’s owner and namesake, believes in delivering the highest quality product to customers who have, over the years, become part of his family. “When it comes to what I use in my shops,” Zohir said, “I’m always looking for the best.”

A driving force in Zohir’s decision to join the Great Salt Switch was learning about our Pure Water, Pure Salt, Pure Planet initiative to provide clean water infrastructure near our harvesting sites in Pakistan. “When I learned about the company and saw what Salt Skill is doing to help people in other parts of the world, I felt it was really important to be a part of that,” Zohir explains.

“This is a business about people,” he said. “I believe that you have to invest in some way to make it about more than just money. Money can come and go, but having passion for what you’re doing, and knowing that you’re doing the right things – that’s something that stays. For me, people come first, profits come second.”

Health Conscious Consumers

Johnny’s Bagels & Deli started moving towards healthier, organic products about five years ago, and Zohir sees using Himalayan sea salt in all their recipes as a natural extension of that. “Our coffee is fair trade and 100% organic. We use all organic vegetables. I think a lot of people now, and it’s the way it should be, are becoming more concerned with their health and what they put in their bodies.”

“We’re seeing that people are becoming more interested, so it’s my hope that as the organic products become more widely used, the price will come down so that more people are able to afford it.” For Zohir, the investment in better ingredients has been well worth it. “What matters to me is the quality,” he says.

Coming Soon – Custom Countertops and Cutting Boards

Now that Zohir has joined the Great Salt Switch, he’s looking at other ways to spread the word about the benefits of our Himalayan pink sea salt. “I’d like to bring in custom countertops and cutting boards for all of our locations.” Since salt is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-microbial, our Himalayan salt countertops will make worries about cross-contamination a thing of the past.

    how due the cutting boards hold up and due put off to much salt when cutting on them

      Allen, our grilling planks make a great cutting board and will last for years when used solely as a cutting board. As for how salty the food will become, it really depends on the water content of the food. For instance a dry cheese will pick up almost no salt where tomatoes will become salty very quickly. The best thing to do is experiment and have fun with it until you find a flavor balance you really like!
